WELCOME TO THE NEW CINEFILIPINO SITE!
As a testament and as our response to Cinefilipino’s members and to all those who continue to log in as a support to Filipino films, we have re-designed the site to be more user-friendly and collaborative.
What started out as an initiative to present the quality story-telling of Filipino films both classic and contemporary has also become a springboard and space for independently produced films, providing the venue for aspiring filmmakers, so they can continue to create and break new ground in filmmaking.

In addition to the story-driven films produced by our feature film production company, Unitel Pictures, Cinefilipino will continue to present films that are truly classic, films that were crafted by acknowledged Philippine cinema masters, and that have left a creative and critical stamp in local cinema. Films that many have enjoyed in the past and would like to see again.
The new design also provides more user feedback, from your suggestions to creating your own reviews about the films available. This collaboration will aid Cinefilipino in providing the members and other users the best that they would expect.

Cannes contender shot and post produced in the Philippines
Brillante “Dante” Mendoza’s latest film “Serbis” is the first Filipino film in 24 years to compete in the Cannes International Film Festival. “Serbis” examines the realities of poverty and one family’s struggle to survive by running a prostitution business inside a run-down movie theater.
Mendoza is no stranger to international acclaim. He has several award-winning films to his credit including the Caligari Film Award at the 2008 Berlinale for “Tirador” (Slingshot), the Golden Leopard at the 2005 Locarno International Film Festival for “Masahista” (The Masseur), and the SIGNIS award at the 2008 Festival Internacional de Cine Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for “Foster Child.”
“We teamed up with a French producer to create this film and they wanted the best postproduction facilities,” Mendoza explains. Mendoza turned to Optima Digital, the leading post-production house in the Philippines, and considered one of the best in Southeast Asia. Having worked previously with Optima for TV commercials, Mendoza knew he had chosen the right partner to work with him on his latest venture. The world-class craftsmanship of “Serbis” immediately caught the eye of Fortissimo Films, which picked up the film for international distribution.
Cutting Edge Post
Optima has developed a reputation for providing services, equipment and facilities of world class standard at competitive rates. Primarily known as a post house for TV commercials, it has recently updated its equipment and facilities to meet the additional requirements of full-length features. These include upgrades to Autodesk Inferno, Flame and Smoke 2008 running on the Linux platform, and the acquisition of a new da Vinci RESOLVE RT system used in the grading of “Serbis.”
“Serbis” was shot in 35mm with HD online and finishing done using Autodesk Smoke. It was printed by Opticolors, a Kodak Imagecare certified film laboratory also located in Manila, and a sister company of Optima.
Other filmmakers from other parts of the world are discovering the speed, quality and efficiency that Optima can bring to their projects. One of them is New York based writer/director Ron Morales whose film “Santa Mesa” was shot on 35mm and digitally graded and mastered on HD RGB 4:4:4. Within three weeks, the film was flown to the US for screening at various festivals including the 26th International Asian American Film Festival in San Francisco.
